HASTINGS (Rev R. Elder and Rev K. McCormack)

Rev. Ron Elder was farewelled at a church social prior to taking up his pastorate at the Newlands Church. He will be missed for his stimulating messages and pastoral concern, particularly amongst the young people, the Maori group and the hospitalised. Our church is endeavouring to increase missionary support, both by better communication between members and intending full-time workers, and more adequate financial support of those on the field. The Church Treasurer's role has been redefined to provide more effective support from a Finance Committee. Our members participated in an interdenominational Christmas Pageant at Nelson Park, and saw Christmas Day in with a midnight service preceded by supper.

HASTINGS (Rev. K. McCormack)

Our pastor recently attended a Pan Asian Conference in Hong Kong as representative for the National Council of Churches; the congregation gained a new insight into Asian culture from his impressions and experiences. A special commissioning service was held to mark the appointment of Mr Lionel Nunns as Youth Director. We are thrilled that he was prepared to accept this important work. Mrs Doreen Hensman has relinquished this work after many years of dedicated service, and will now assist the pastor in visitation and pastoral work. The visit by the touring missionary team was much appreciated. Rev. David Jacobsen, from the Valley Road Church led a stimulating weekend mission on "How to communicate your faith". The church sponsored refugee family arrived in early November.

N.Z. Baptist Magazine

Since the first days of the church, Hastings Baptist submitted regular summaries of church life and events to the New Zealand Baptist Magazine.  As part of the centenary archive those updates have been collected and reproduced here.  It is a catalogue of people and moments that have shaped the church’s story.
